I hung out with my favorite farmer, Doris;
and my favorite camera-shy farmer, Diana.
In fact I hung out at the Farmer's Market every chance I got. I love the whole idea of buying produce directly from the producers.
There is nothing quite so delicious as fresh vegetables. Add to that: most of them were grown within twenty miles of my house. I get fresh veggies and the farmers get paid directly. No middle man.
I took Pook and Kathleen apple picking once again. There was less climbing this year and they seemed to have remembered the icky apple incident and avoided any and all suspicious fruit. So, I never heard "Eeewww". We got Applewood's famous apple cider doughnuts and ate them faster than I could photograph. That's just as well because:
I screwed up my memory card and lost over a hundred photos. Among those were: photos of turkey vultures in flight; thoroughbred horses running across a field; a beautiful white horse grazing next to a red-tailed hawk that was sitting on the fence; some spectacular sunsets; the two pairs of socks that I finished; the world's saddest, most pathetic Mexican Sunflower; the crop of tomatoes that came from my four neglected tomato plants (they were yummy); Pook being a goofball; bigfoot; before and after photos of my son who had me cut off all his hair; Zoe chasing a mouse; a unicorn; the six a.m. photos I took on the first day of school and a UFO making crop circles. It was an annoying loss. I thought the card was a goner so I went off to buy a new one only to learn that no one makes them anymore. Yes, that's right. My camera is only a few years old and it's obsolete. I had to buy a new card off ebay.
I reformatted the hard drive on the family computer. Heaven only knows what the girls have done to it and it was so slow I could cook dinner while waiting for it to boot up. Once I did this I was able to reformat the previously-believed-to-be-dead SmartMedia card for my camera. This definitely destroyed all those historically significant photos that were locked in there but, now I can once again roam the county, in the totally rockin' minivan, taking pointless photos for my own amusement. Life is good.
I painted the cover of a sketchbook for Maureen for her birthday.
I like the way the crows came out. My collaging technique needs some work.
I heard from my darling brother Matthew, who I love and adore. He was less than charmed by my including what I thought of as an adorable picture of his thirteenth birthday. He said something along the lines of starting his own blog and calling it "Ellen-Mary is an Ass". He's so cute when he's annoyed.
I neglected my garden and it has since grown completely out of control. In my defense I spent several weeks, since June, taking those horrible antibiotics to get rid of a sinus/ear infection that very much enjoyed living in my head. It's difficult to bend over and weed a garden under those conditions so I didn't bother.
I have given up trying to get the husband to change his assinine ID photo. Instead I told him if anything happens to him I'll be donating what's left of him to science. He was unmoved.
Being the good sport that I am, I shaved off all his hair before he left for three weeks of training to earn his Mountain Warfare merit badge.
There was enough hair on the floor to make a couple of hamsters.
I made chicken soup.
I made potato soup.
I baked muffins and bread.
I took the above mentioned, really cool photos that I no longer have.
I pet the cat.
I read a couple of books.
Paid some bills, vacuumed the living room, cleaned out my dresser and at least once I mopped the kitchen floor. None of this was worth blogging about.
At the moment I'm trying to psych myself up to paint the enclosed porch/florida room thing off the dining room. I told myself I would take care of this while Dennis was off in the mountains. My whole family, including Matthew because he loves me and will get over it by then, are all coming for Christmas. The enclosed porch/florida room thing is in need of some love. It's not a big room but it has walls made of paneling and they need priming before I can even think about painting them. There was a skylight but the roofers removed it for me because it leaked something awful. This is why the room hasn't been done before now. The leaking. I don't know who attached this room thing to my house but they didn't grade the roof of it correctly and we've had some significant leaking problems. We got some professional roofers in here to rip the entire roof off the entire house and start over. They did a good job. Now I have an enclosed porch/florida room thing with a skylight shaped hole in the ceiling and no more leaks and two weeks to paint and decorate it.
I'll keep you posted and there may even be photos.
